Hawks Punish Cavs in Home Blowout, McCollum Goes Off as Role Players Step Up
Look, I'm biased as a Hawks fan, but that 124-102 win felt like exactly what Atlanta needed. This wasn't some fluke blowout either. This was controlled, efficient basketball with guys stepping into their roles when it mattered. Let's break down who showed up and who got exposed.
| Player | ESPN FP | Yahoo FP | Tonight | Season Avg | +/- Pts |

CJ McCollum Did CJ Things
CJ McCollum went absolutely nuclear for 29 points on 11-16 shooting, finishing with 43.8 Yahoo FP. That's a +10.3 swing from his season average. Here's the thing though, don't get drunk on this one performance. McCollum has been solid all season at 18.7 PPG but he's not suddenly your league winner because he went off at home against a struggling Cavs team. That said, if you own him, you hold. If you don't own him, he's still not available in any league that matters.
The real story is McCollum was efficient. 11-16 from the field is the kind of shooting night that tells you the Hawks offense was humming, and everyone benefited from that spacing and rhythm.
Dyson Daniels Is Your Glue Guy
Dyson Daniels hit 48 Yahoo FP with a line that shows exactly why he won Most Improved last season. 13/10/12 with 2 steals in 29 minutes. The assists spike is what kills me here. He dropped 6.1 more dimes than his season average (12 vs 5.9).
This is the play for me: Daniels won't win you a week on his own, but he won't tank you either. He's the type of role player that fantasy coaches forget to grab on draft day, then kick themselves week 8 when they're looking for floor games. His recent ownership bump to 82.5% tells you the market already figured this out, but if he's somehow still available in your league, he's a smash add for the playoffs.
NAW Quietly Efficient, But Don't Overreact
Nickeil Alexander-Walker put up 29.7 Yahoo FP on 7-13 shooting with 3 threes. That's -2.8 from his season average, which tells you everything. He scored 18 points but those assists and rebounds came up short. The addition bump to ownership (now 82.5%) is wild because this wasn't some breakout game. He was fine. That's it. He was fine.
Here's my teacher brain talking: fantasy managers getting excited about NAW adding a percent ownership because of a "normal" game are sleeping on the actual story. Hold him if you own him, but don't reach to add him thinking this is a breakout.
The Cavs Got Punked, and Nobody's Getting a Pass
Let me start here: Jaylon Tyson was the only Cavs player who looked like he cared. 15/4/3 with 3 steals and 2 blocks in 24 minutes got him 38.3 Yahoo FP. The dude is a high-energy player and it showed. If he gets more minutes, he's got some appeal, but 24 minutes against a blowout isn't the sample size we're hanging our hats on.
James Harden though. Twenty points on 6-13 shooting looks fine on paper until you remember his season average is 23.6 PPG and he's an All-NBA caliber guard. He pulled 0 rebounds (his season avg is 4.8) and only 5 assists on a night the Cavs were playing catch-up basketball. That's not a guy attacking. That's a guy playing in a game where his team got out-coached and out-executed. The Cavs' entire offense looked stagnant. Harden's 22.5 Yahoo FP feels hollow.
Evan Mobley going 10/6/1 with just 1 block in 21 minutes is what you notice when you rewind tape. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year looked like he was playing in mud. Down 22 at the end tells you all you need to know about game flow, but still. This was bad.
Jalen Johnson Disappointed, NAW's Minutes Question Returns
Jalen Johnson scored 18 with 9 rebounds but that's -4.5 from his season average and he only played 25 minutes. This is the Hawks' reminder that when the game gets out of hand early, role players don't get run. Johnson is a 22.5 PPG guy who makes fantasy sense normally, but tonight he couldn't carry any volume. If you own him and the Hawks keep blowing teams out, you're looking at ceiling games with lower floor potential. Something to monitor.
The Real Ownership Move That Actually Matters
Tyrese Proctor coming off the bench for the Cavs with 15/1/4 and 1 steal in 12 minutes is actually interesting. He dropped 9.9 points above his season average. That's the kind of bench spark that matters if he starts eating more minutes. At 5.1 season PPG, any guy who goes 15 points on efficient shooting (5-8 FG, 2 3PM) is worth a stash in deep leagues if he's getting real playing time next game.
Similarly, Olivier Sarr coming in for 19.5 Yahoo FP on 1-1 shooting with 5 rebounds and 3 assists in just 9 minutes is the type of random blowout fantasy noise that doesn't matter. He's not getting 9 minutes when this game is close.
What This Game Actually Tells Us
The Hawks looked like the better team with better execution. The Cavs looked like they were playing half-asleep. For fantasy purposes, that means McCollum's game could be replicated if the Hawks keep this offensive rhythm going, but don't bank your entire season on "CJ had one good night at home."
The real value play here is grabbing Dyson Daniels if he somehow slipped through waivers in your league. He's the assist spike from this game that actually projects going forward. That 12 dimes wasn't just noise.
Jarrett Allen got dropped league-wide (dropped 0.1% ownership), and honestly, with a line of 0/0/0 in zero minutes against a blowout, that's the overreaction of the week. He's fine. He was probably sitting to rest on a back-to-back or deal with something minor. Don't panic drop.
This game was what it looked like: a stronger team punching a weaker team in the mouth. Fantasy gold comes from Daniels' assist spike and McCollum's efficiency, but outside of that, this was mostly noise. Save your fantasy panic for closer games where the real decisions matter.
