Cavs Survive Close One as Mobley Puts Team on His Back

122-116 final, and Cleveland sneaks out with the W in a game that felt way closer than the box score. This wasn't some blowout masterclass, but for fantasy purposes, it was a master class in who showed up when it mattered.

Evan Mobley Did Evan Mobley Things

Look, this is what DPOY does when he decides a game matters. Evan Mobley went 8-15 from the field, pulled down 19 rebounds (9.9 above his season average), and finished with 57.3 Yahoo fantasy points. That's not fluky either, that's All-NBA Second Team guy reminding everyone why he was on that ballot.

What jumped out: he wasn't forcing anything. 19 rebounds on 35 minutes means he was everywhere, cleaning glass for the Cavs when Atlanta got aggressive. This is the kind of performance that doesn't always show up in highlights but absolutely shows up in your fantasy lineup winning you the week. If you own Mobley, sit back and enjoy. This is the floor when he's locked in defensively.

Donovan Mitchell Stayed Efficient

Donovan Mitchell went 12-19 from the field for 31 points. That's All-NBA First Team efficiency right there. 46.4 Yahoo points on 34 minutes means the Cavs had their guy ready when clutch shots mattered. He was only +3.1 from his season average, which tells you this was pretty much his baseline elite self. Nothing crazy, nothing disappointing, just the reigning All-NBA player doing his job.

The 7 rebounds is interesting though. That's a little higher than his usual numbers, and it speaks to how the game flowed. Atlanta was forcing the Cavs to be complete on both ends, and Mitchell answered.

The Hawks Got Punched in the Mouth

Let's start with the obvious: Jalen Johnson had a stinker. 12 points on 4-16 shooting? That's -10.6 from his season average. For a guy who's been carrying some of the Atlanta load this year, that's the kind of night that loses fantasy weeks. He grabbed 11 boards so it wasn't a complete disaster, but when your third option goes ice cold against a playoff-caliber defense, you don't beat teams like Cleveland.

CJ McCollum also underperformed, putting up 32.8 Yahoo points when he's been hovering around 20+ more nights than not. 6-16 shooting in a close game tells you the Cavs' perimeter D was suffocating. These are the types of performances that remind you that matchups matter more in April than they do in November.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker Is Your Sneaky Gem

Real talk: Nickeil Alexander-Walker went off for 25 points on 10-19 shooting. That's +4.1 from his season average in 39 minutes. He's getting real run now, and if you're looking at waiver adds this week, NAW just proved he can get buckets in tight games. He won't win you a championship week, but he's the kind of glue guy who won't lose you one either. He's a solid depth grab in 12-team leagues if he's sitting out there.

Kuminga, Baby

This one's wild. Jonathan Kuminga put up 24 points on 11-20 shooting for 34.7 Yahoo points. That's +11.9 from his season average. Dude was cookin'. The problem? He only played 30 minutes. If the Warriors get him more runway consistently, we're talking about a totally different player in fantasy terms. Right now he's a speculative add if you've got bench space, but don't bet your season on the minutes. That's a Warriors thing, and we all know how they roll with rotation.

The Ownership Moves Make Sense

Jarrett Allen got added heavily (+0.3% ownership heading to 83.7%), and I get why. He went 16/8 in 29 minutes on 8-11 free throw shooting. Solid night. But he's already highly owned, so unless you're in a really deep league, this shouldn't change your waiver strategy. He's a safe floor guy, not a ceiling guy, and tonight proved that.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker getting the bump also makes sense. If NAW continues getting this kind of run and producing at this level, he's a real league winner in deeper formats.

Real Talk About the Loss

Look, I'm a Hawks fan, and this one stings. But from a fantasy perspective, this game tells you something important: when your best guys have the kind of nights Johnson and McCollum had, you're not beating teams with two All-NBA talents on the roster. Dyson Daniels and Okongwu tried to keep it close with solid contributions (37.4 and 26 Yahoo points respectively), but that wasn't enough.

The Cavs are real. Mobley's defensive anchor holding down a game like this is exactly why he won DPOY. If you're making playoff push decisions, the Cavs core of Mobley and Mitchell just showed why they're dangerous in close games.
