Timberwolves Roll Past Pacers 124-104, Bench Mob Saves the Day

Minnesota's missing half their starting lineup and still cooked Indiana by 20. That's the headline here.

Let me be direct: this game was fantasy chaos because the Pacers showed up without their entire engine. Tyrese Haliburton, Andrew Nembhard, Pascal Siakam, Aaron Nesmith, Ivica Zubac all out. That's your All-NBA point guard, your backup point guard, your third star, your wing depth, and your backup center. The Pacers rolled out what looked like a Summer League squad and got treated like one.

But here's what matters for your fantasy team: some nobodies went nuclear, and Minnesota's depth proved dangerous even without Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels.

Who Actually Cooked

Bones Hyland didn't just go off. He went off off. 19 points, 7 assists, 4 threes in just 20 minutes. That's 37.3 Yahoo FP in basically the first half of a game. His season average is 8.5 points, so he absolutely destroyed his ceiling. The thing is, this smells like a garbage time special. Minnesota was up 30 in the fourth quarter, so Bones got unleashed on a broken Pacers defense that was out of gas. Don't get cute thinking this is repeatable.

Ayo Dosunmu though? That's the real play. 24 points, 10-17 shooting, 33 minutes. He was +9.2 vs his season average and actually looked like the second option in Minnesota's offense. The Timberwolves needed scoring without Edwards and Jaden, so Ayo filled it. 35.5 Yahoo FP is legit fantasy scoring, not just blowout padding.

Rudy Gobert was massive on the boards, 12 rebounds in 33 minutes, but shot just 2-5. He got his points from volume rebounding and putbacks. The All-Defensive selection was doing his job but nothing sexy here.

On the Pacers side, Ethan Thompson went 4-8 from the field and hit 8-10 free throws for 17 points. That's +11 vs his season average. Kid's averaging 6 points normally and suddenly got 29 minutes. That's a usage play in a blowout. Don't trust it.

Who Flopped

Julius Randle shot 5-13 and only grabbed 2 boards. That's not a typo. A power forward taking 13 shots and pulling down 2 rebounds is basically a crime. He's a 21.1 PPG, 6.7 RPG guy, and he was -4.7 on the glass tonight. The Pacers were getting cooked so bad that there was no rhythm, and Randle looked uncomfortable in a blowout situation. Not panic-worthy since this is clearly an anomaly game, but worth noting if you're considering trading for him.

The Real Story: Depth Works

Naz Reid putting up 24.9 Yahoo FP off the bench in 23 minutes tells you everything about Minnesota's problem this season. They can't afford injuries to their stars because their depth scoring is streaky. Tonight it worked out. Naz went 7-10 from the field with 3 threes. That's elite role player efficiency.

Jaylen Clark got 17 minutes and posted 24.2 Yahoo FP. He's a 4.0 PPG bench guy. Again, this is what happens when you're playing a skeletally thin Pacers team down 20 in the third quarter.

The Pacers tried. Jarace Walker had 29.7 Yahoo FP with 5 assists, basically what you'd want from a backup guard. Obi Toppin was solid with 21.6 Yahoo FP, hitting 5-6 from the line. These guys just had no help.

What This Means Going Forward

If you're holding Ayo Dosunmu, he's a waiver wire sneak. The Timberwolves need scoring, and without Edwards and McDaniels, he's getting real minutes. He's already 35.8% owned, so he's on some people's radar, but in 10-team leagues he should be owned. Grab him if available.

Bones Hyland is staying on the waiver. Don't fool yourself that 20 minutes in a blowout translates to role permanence. His season average tells the story.

Julius Randle is fine. One bad game against a prevent defense doesn't move the needle when you're getting 27 minutes.

The Pacers are cooked if that injury report is real. When your team is missing its All-NBA point guard, two starters, and a backup center, you're not getting fantasy value. Don't even bother streaming Pacers players until everyone comes back.
