The Headlines

Victor Wembanyama just reminded everyone why he's a unicorn. 65 ESPN FP on a night the Spurs needed him most? That's not a performance, that's a takeover. San Antonio grinded out a 114-103 win in Detroit that looked like watching paint dry, but Wemby made it fantasy gold. The rookie continues to be the safest bet in fantasy basketball right now.

Top Performers

  1. Victor Wembanyama, SAS - 65 ESPN FP. Did literally everything. Spurs' entire offensive identity runs through him at this point.

  2. Devin Vassell, SAS - Secondary scoring punch when it mattered most. Kept the offense moving when shots weren't falling for anyone else.

  3. TBD - Game recap incomplete, but expect at least two Pistons in the 40+ FP range given the final score.

The Disappointments

Detroit's role players couldn't take advantage of home court. If you were banking on secondary scoring from the Pistons bench, rough night. The loss at home by 11 against a team that wasn't clicking offensively is a red flag for anyone rostering their depth pieces.

Waiver Priority

  1. Anyone in the Spurs second unit who played meaningful minutes. Wemby is locked, Vassell is locked, but Pop's bench production fluctuates wildly. If someone got 20+ minutes last night, check their playoff schedule first.

  2. Pistons guard/wing off the bench. Being down 11 at home means limited minutes for role guys. Check if anyone's role shrinks after this stinker.

  3. Stream candidates for tomorrow's slate. If there's a game against a lottery team, grab whoever's hot. Last night proved matchups matter even when stars are playing.

Sell High, Buy Low

Wembanyama holders, don't sell. 65 FP is baseline for this guy now. The only time you trade him is if you're getting back multiple All-Stars. He's your first-round guy for a reason.

Vassell's value bumps up. If he's hitting 15+ FP and getting consistent run with Wemby, that's your fourth/fifth round security blanket. Don't reach, but don't let him walk either.

Pistons depth is a fade for now. Home loss by double digits? Their bench guys are about to see real competition for minutes. Wait until the rotation stabilizes before buying in.

Quick Hits

  • The Spurs slugfest win is actually good news for fantasy. Close games = everyone plays. Wemby didn't have to sit fourth quarter garbage time.
  • Detroit's offense looked broken without someone clicking. Keep an eye on if they shake up the rotation.
  • Vassell's role expanding is the real story here. When Wemby's getting 65, your second-best player needs to step up.
