Heat Cruise Past Hawks in Blowout, But Atlanta's Depth Gives Fantasy Gold

Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat this. The Heat came into State Farm Arena and punched my Hawks in the mouth, 128-97, and it was about as fun to watch as a Monday morning algebra test. But here's the thing about blowouts in fantasy: they tell you more about your roster's future than the final score ever will.

Jalen Johnson 40.0 48.7 16/16/11 23.5/10.6/8.1 -7.5

The Real Story: Atlanta's Role Players Carried the Load (And That Matters)

This game was never close. Heat were in total control by the third quarter. The Hawks got absolutely torched defensively and couldn't generate anything in transition. But if you own Jalen Johnson or Onyeka Okongwu, you might be smiling despite the L.

Jalen Johnson put up 48.7 Yahoo fantasy points on 16 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists. Yes, he shot 6-22. Yes, he missed a ton. But here's what I'm looking at as a coach: the man grabbed 16 boards in a blowout loss where bench guys got extended run. That's effort. That's motor. He went +5.4 rebounds versus his season average, and that's the kind of consistency that wins fantasy weeks even when your team loses by 30.

Onyeka Okongwu went completely off. 22 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, 2 blocks on 8-12 shooting with 4 threes. That's 39.1 Yahoo points, and the dude was +5.9 on his season scoring average. In a blowout where the game was decided by halftime, that's not a fluke. The Heat had to play their bench, and Hawks were running offense through their role players. Okongwu took advantage. If he's available in your league, we need to talk.

Miami's Depth Flexed

The Heat showed why they're legit, and it wasn't just stars. Tyler Herro dropped 24 efficient points (9-14 FG, 4-4 FT) in 23 minutes. That's 36.3 Yahoo points of pure "get outta here" energy. He was +2.1 versus season average and didn't need to work hard for it. Light work on a Friday night.

Davion Mitchell was the backup point guard everyone slept on, going 7 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists with 3 steals in 26 minutes. 33.5 Yahoo points. That's a guy who could legitimately be a pickup if your league's still sleeping on Heat rotation guys.

Kel'el Ware is the one that's actually interesting. 14 points, 12 rebounds in 18 minutes? That's +2.7 on his scoring and +2.8 on the boards. Dude might be cooking something we haven't noticed yet.

Who Flopped and Why It Matters

Dyson Daniels went 4 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals. Just 20.9 Yahoo points when he's a 9.0 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 7.0 APG player. That's -7.6 on scoring. In a loss where the game was over by the end of the first half, his minutes got weird and he couldn't get into rhythm. Not panic, but worth watching.

Norman Powell took 13 shots, hit 5, and went 15 points total. He's a 23 PPG guy this season, so -8.0 on scoring is rough. But the Heat won so decisively that bench guys ate into his minutes. That's a coaching decision, not a talent issue.

The Bottom Line

Atlanta got handled, but their rotation players proved they can produce in favorable circumstances. If you own Okongwu or Johnson, you just got a reminder that these guys can carry games. If you're trying to grab a waiver wire piece, Onyeka Okongwu should not be on the market anywhere after tonight.

The Heat beat them decisively with their Big 3 playing efficient, non-hero ball. That's actually the worst kind of loss for fantasy purposes because you can't even root for somebody to go nuclear. But Miami's bench depth is worth remembering for playoff pivots later this season.
