Look, I'm not thrilled about this one. My Hawks just lost at home to Charlotte 126-119, and that stings. But as a fantasy analyst, I have to give credit where it's due, and Jalen Johnson just put on a clinic. This loss might actually tell us more about what's working in Atlanta's favor than the final score suggests.

Johnson's Elite Efficiency is Real
Jalen Johnson dropped 60.8 Yahoo points on 39 minutes, shooting 10-18 with nearly perfect free throw shooting (9-11). That's not a fluke line. He's +7.6 points above his season average, and the scary part for opposing defenses? He looked comfortable doing it. 31 points, 9 boards, 8 assists. That's All-Star caliber performance, and if you've got him on your bench waiting for his "breakout," this is it.
What matters for fantasy: Johnson has been solid all season (23.4 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 8.2 APG) but tonight showed he can go nuclear when given the opportunity. On a Hawks team that could use more offensive creation with some of our guys battling injuries, he's someone you need rostered and in your lineup every night. Don't be cute with the benching.
The Hornets' Balanced Attack Held Up Down the Stretch
Charlotte didn't need heroics from any one player. Miles Bridges (40.7 Yahoo FP) was efficient as hell, going 10-14 from the field and cashing all five free throws. Kon Knueppel went nuclear with 6 threes, hitting 23 points on solid volume. LaMelo Ball (37.7 Yahoo FP) didn't put up the scoring numbers we're used to (7-20 FG), but he created chaos with 9 assists and 2 steals across 31 minutes. That's the glue guy stuff I teach my students about, the impact that doesn't always light up the scoreboard but wins you weeks.
The real eye-opener was Moussa Diabaté. The big man grabbed 15 boards on just 32 minutes. That's +6.3 versus his season average. If Charlotte's giving him consistent minutes, he's a sneaky add in deeper leagues. Rebound upside is real, and he was effective enough on two-pointers (4-8) that he's not just a dead weight on the court.
The Waiver Wire Move You Probably Missed
Nickeil Alexander-Walker posted 35.4 Yahoo points but played like someone forcing things. 13 points on 3-15 shooting is ugly, even if he did dish 10 dimes. He's up 0.3% in ownership, landing at 83.4%, which means people are buying the assist numbers. Don't panic sell, but this wasn't as clean as the box score suggests. He's still a solid depth piece, but his scoring efficiency worries me tonight.
The real waiver play is Zaccharie Risacher. Yeah, he only played 23 minutes, but he went 7-10 from the field with 4 threes in limited time. That's +7.1 above his season average on just 30.6 Yahoo points. If the Hawks give him more run, he could be a consistent 30+ FP contributor. Young wings who can shoot are always valuable, and Risacher looked polished out there.
What This Loss Means for Your Roster
This was a winnable game that slipped away, which happens. But for fantasy purposes, the Hawks showed they've got multiple scoring outlets even when Buddy Hield and some of the usual guys didn't get it done. Johnson taking over is exactly what you want to see. Charlotte's balanced approach is also a reminder that you don't need one superstar to win a game, which matters if you're building around role players.
Dyson Daniels (26.5 Yahoo FP) was solid if unspectacular. All-Defensive First Team honors have to count for something, but he went 5-13 from the field. These are the nights where elite defense keeps you in the game even if scoring doesn't pop.
Bottom line: Johnson is a hold, Bridges is a hold, and Knueppel just proved he can go off on a night when the opportunity shows up. Risacher might deserve a closer look in your waiver priorities. This game had real fantasy substance despite the Hawks falling short.
