Cavs Survive Naz Reid's Explosion, but Don Mitchell Stays the Most Reliable

The Cavaliers barely held off a furious Timberwolves comeback on the road, 146-134, and if you think this was a clean victory, you weren't watching the fourth quarter. Minnesota's bench absolutely cooked Cleveland's defense, with Naz Reid going absolutely bonkers off the bench. But here's what matters for your fantasy team: Donovan Mitchell stayed exactly who he's been all season, Jarrett Allen reminded everyone why he's a league-winner, and Evan Mobley just put up another reminder that he's underrated in fantasy circles.

Tonight's Top Performers

Player Yahoo FP Tonight Season Avg vs Avg
Donovan Mitchell 45.6 28/3/8 29.2/4.8/5.7 -1.2 pts, +2.3 ast
Jarrett Allen 41.2 16/11/4 13.4/7.8/2.1 +2.6 pts, +3.2 reb
Evan Mobley 38.3 24/4/3 17.8/8.6/4.1 +6.2 pts, -4.6 reb
Naz Reid 38.5 25/5/3 14.6/6.2/2.4 +10.4 pts, -1.2 reb
Anthony Edwards 40.5 25/5/3 28.9/5.0/3.8 -3.9 pts
Julius Randle 31.8 20/4/4 22.2/7.1/5.7 -2.2 pts, -3.1 reb

Don Mitchell delivered exactly what's expected from an All-NBA player, dropping 28 on efficient 9-21 shooting with four threes and 8 assists. The -1.2 points below average doesn't mean anything. He's a 29.2 PPG guy on any given night, sometimes he's 28, sometimes he's 32. That's not a dip, that's just Don being Don. Own him and sleep peacefully.

The Winners

Jarrett Allen is the real story here. The Cavs' center went 16/11/4 for 41.2 Yahoo fantasy points, beating his season average by 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 points. Allen's been quietly solid this season at 13.4/7.8, but tonight he looked like the defensive anchor and rim-running machine that makes Cleveland actually work. He got 28 minutes and made every possession count (6-10 FG, 4-5 FT). If you're streaming bigs, Allen's about to be snatched up everywhere.

Evan Mobley absolutely exceeded expectations with 24/4/3 for 38.3 points, sitting a +6.2 above his 17.8 average. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year went 11-16 from the field, which is the kind of efficiency that wins fantasy weeks. Mobley's been in an interesting spot this season, and last night showed why you can't sleep on him. He's the third option on a winning team, but some nights he just takes over.

Naz Reid is the wildcard nobody asked for but everybody's about to want. The Wolves' bench piece came out of NOWHERE with 25/5/3, a ridiculous +10.4 above his 14.6 average. He hit five threes off the bench in 28 minutes. Look, one game doesn't make a trend, but Reid just got added in 0.2% of leagues. If Minnesota keeps running him this heavy off the bench, he's a lottery ticket worth holding.

The Letdowns

Anthony Edwards had 40.5 Yahoo points but shot 10-24 and came in -3.9 below his 28.9 average. That's the trade-off with volume scorers. Ant still put up 25, still got his 3 assists, still played 35 minutes. This isn't a panic situation. He's Anthony Edwards. But if you're shopping him after a rough efficiency night, this is the time to capitalize.

Julius Randle came in at 31.8 points, down -2.2 from his 22.2 average in rebounds and -2.2 in points. He shot 8-15 and grabbed just 4 boards in a game where Minnesota got absolutely worked inside. Randle's fine long-term, but nights like this show why he's not a league-winner at his current ADP.

The Trends

The Cavs got the win, which matters, but Mobley's 31 minutes and 11-16 shooting tells you Cleveland's trusting him more in clutch situations. Meanwhile, Lonzo Ball played zero minutes. That's a red flag if you own him. He hasn't gotten any burn lately. Same story with Larry Nance Jr., who's a non-factor in the rotation.

On the Minnesota side, Bones Hyland went 26.9 Yahoo points in just 20 minutes. If the Wolves keep cycling him in as a scoring punch off the bench alongside Reid, that's a depth pickup worth monitoring.

The Moves

Add Jarrett Allen immediately. He's at 84.8% ownership but just proved he's way more than a streaming plug. In deeper leagues, grab him. In shallower ones, he's a safety deposit box.

Add Naz Reid in all formats. Yeah, one explosion doesn't mean he's your center going forward, but 28 minutes and five threes is a role you can build around. He's at 3.9% ownership. Get him now before Minnesota proves this is real.

Drop or bench Lonzo Ball. Zero minutes is unacceptable. He's getting fantasy-poisoned by the Cavs' depth, and there are better mid-tier guards available.

Next Up

Cavs and Wolves both get quick turnarounds coming up. Watch if Allen stays in the rotation with this kind of volume. If he does, he's a top-50 value for the rest of the season. Monitor Reid's minutes going forward. Mobley owners should feel great about his trajectory. And for Edwards owners, don't panic on one rough shooting night against a good defense.
