Jokic Underperforms But Nuggets Still Dominate, Cedric Coward Emerges as Legit Fantasy Asset

Denver rolled Memphis 136-119 on the back of balanced scoring and solid depth. The story here isn't necessarily the final margin, it's who stepped up when the reigning All-NBA center had one of his quieter nights. That's fantasy gold.

The Jokic Thing (Don't Panic)

Look, Nikola Jokic dropped 51 Yahoo points and you want to tell me to worry? Nah. He went 5-8 from the field with 10 assists and 15 rebounds in 31 minutes. The All-NBA center was just efficient and didn't need to force volume scoring. Down 13.8 points from his season average is literally just normal shot distribution variance. He didn't have a bad game, he just didn't need to carry the load offensively. That's not a red flag, that's a system working.

Cedric Coward Is Real and We Need to Talk About It

Cedric Coward just dropped 40.2 Yahoo points on 27 shots. That's 13.4 points above his season average. Here's what matters: he played 21 minutes and went 10-17 from the field with four made threes and perfect free throw shooting. This isn't a one-game fluke narrative. Coward is getting legitimate run in Denver's rotation and he's shooting the ball with confidence. 46 ESPN points in limited minutes is the kind of line that gets people excited, and rightfully so.

If you've got roster depth and a waiver wire spot, Coward is worth rostering. He's shooting over 40% from three for the season and tonight he looked like Denver's secondary scoring engine. In deeper leagues especially, he's a grab.

Murray and the Supporting Cast Actually Clicked

Jamal Murray went exactly to his season average (26/7/5), which is funny because it feels like the whole Denver offense just worked. Cameron Johnson hit 8-12 with five made threes and looked genuinely sharp. Bruce Brown exceeded expectations, picking up 32.4 Yahoo points with plus-5.2 production. Even Jonas Valančiūnas came off the bench and immediately made an impact (14 points on 6-6 shooting in 12 minutes).

The Nuggets aren't sneaking around right now. They're just beating people with depth and execution. That makes them a tough matchup for single-star teams.

Memphis Got Cooked by Role Players

Memphis showed up with some solid individual performances but couldn't get enough firepower. Taylor Hendricks went off for 29.7 Yahoo points, crushing his season average by 8.6 points with 16 points on clean 6-8 shooting. Adama Bal and Lucas Williamson both exceeded their averages and played solid minutes. Jahmai Mashack showed some playmaking juice with seven assists in 32 minutes.

But here's the problem: even with those secondary contributions, you need your stars to show up. Without your best players available, role player performances can look great in a box score and still result in a 17-point loss. That's Memphis tonight.

The Ownership Moves Tell a Story

Santi Aldama is trending downward after riding the bench, which makes sense. He's already at 43% ownership and dropping. If you're in a league where he's still available, the waiver wire buzz is telling you something. The Grizzlies have clearly moved on from him as a meaningful contributor.

Meanwhile, league-wide adds like Marvin Bagley III and continued holds on Jarrett Allen and Nickeil Alexander-Walker show that people are still hunting for depth. That's fine. But don't sleep on Cedric Coward being on waiver wires in a lot of leagues right now. By tomorrow he's probably getting added in every sharp league.

The Bottom Line

Denver showed why they're a top team by winning comfortably even when their MVP-caliber center didn't need to carry the load. That system is real and sustainable. Memphis has some guys who can put up numbers but needs their key players available to actually compete. If you've got Coward on your wire, grab him now. If you're rostering Jokic, you just watched a 51-point game and somehow it was his quietest night. That's elite player capital working for you.
