Celtics Steal One in Memphis, But Jaylen Brown's the Only One Who Actually Showed Up

Final: Celtics 117, Grizzlies 112

Look, I'm not gonna pretend this was a showcase game. It was ugly, it was messy, and if I'm being honest, the Celtics limped out of Memphis looking like they forgot how to play basketball for 30 minutes. But you know what? A W is a W, and in fantasy terms, this game had some genuinely interesting storylines buried underneath the sloppy execution.

Let's start with the guy who actually deserves credit for carrying his team's fantasy squad:

Top Performers

Player ESPN FP Yahoo FP Tonight Season Avg +/- Pts
Jaylen Brown 45.0 45.2 30/6/6 28.5/7.0/5.2 +1.5
Luka Garza 38.0 33.9 22/7/1 7.6/3.9/0.9 +14.4
Taylor Hendricks 40.0 33.0 12/5/2 7.2/3.6/1.0 +4.8
Derrick White 33.0 32.5 14/5/3 17.3/4.5/5.6 -3.3
Tyler Burton 34.0 30.0 23/5/2 8.6/4.4/0.8 +14.4

Cam Spencer 31.0 25.1 11/3/5 11.4/2.6/5.4 -0.4

Jaylen Brown Reminded Everyone Why He's In The Conversation

Jaylen Brown went nuclear for 45.2 Yahoo fantasy points on a 30/6/6 night, and honestly, that's basically the entire story of this game for Boston. He dropped 30 points on 10-23 shooting, went 8-8 from the line, and just willed his team to victory when nobody else was hitting. This is what you want from your best player in crunch time, and it's why he's still carrying the load for Boston. The +1.5 against his season average doesn't sound like much, but context matters: he got there with solid efficiency and didn't have to launch 30 shots. This is sustainable Brown, not volume-hunting Brown. If you have him, ride this all the way home.

The Garza Surprise Party and the Grizzlies' Bench Going Off

Here's where this game gets weird. Luka Garza absolutely cooked off the bench for 22/7/1 in 27 minutes, putting up 33.9 Yahoo FP and crushing his season average by 14.4 points. That's not a typo. The guy who averages 7.6 PPG went full Sixth Man of the Year energy and was legitimately Memphis' best offensive player besides the starters. Problem is, you probably don't have Garza on your roster, and even if you do, this feels like a flash in the pan against a Celtics defense that was clearly caught sleeping.

But here's the real story: Tyler Burton (34 Yahoo FP, 23/5/2) and Olivier-Maxence Prosper (27.4 Yahoo FP, 14/7/2) both exceeded expectations hard. Burton was +14.4 on the season and hit five threes. Prosper was +5.2 and grabbed 7 boards. These aren't household names, but they showed up when it mattered. If Memphis' rotation stays this deep and these guys keep getting 25-30 minute looks, there might be some late-game pickup value here. Santi Aldama didn't play (dropped -0.5% ownership, now at 46.7%), which probably opened the door for these guys to eat.

The Celtics Bench Did Celtics Things

Payton Pritchard (26.7 Yahoo FP, 19/6/3) came off the bench and was solid if unremarkable. He hit three threes, went 6-6 from the line, and didn't hurt you. That's the Pritchard experience, and it's fine. Derrick White put up 32.5 Yahoo FP with 14/5/3 but was -3.3 against his season average, which tells you he was probably looking to defer more than usual with Brown taking over. That's not a red flag, that's just playoff-style basketball where roles shift game to game.

Neemias Queta (24.7 Yahoo FP, 12/11/1) got just 17 minutes but was efficient when he was on the floor. He's not fantasy relevant on a night-to-night basis, but in a league where centers are thin, he's at least worth knowing about for deep benches.

The real letdown was Jayson Tatum with only 20.8 Yahoo FP on 13/9/0. He was -6.6 against his season average and just couldn't get going. This is an All-NBA guy having an off night, and that happens, but in fantasy, off nights from your stars matter. The good news? This is one game. The bad news? If he plays like this in the playoffs, you've got problems.

The Take-Aways

Don't overreact to Garza, Burton, or Prosper. This was a road game where Memphis' bench got minutes and the Celtics were sloppy. Brown was great and that's what matters. Tatum had a clunker but he'll be back. Santi Aldama being out is worth monitoring for the Grizzlies' next few games, but it's probably not a long-term thing.

If you're in a deep league and desperate for a streaming option, keep Burton and Prosper on your radar, but don't blow FAAB on them. They're Tuesday night pickups, not future studs.

Boston grinded out a road win because Brown showed up. That's the story. That's the fantasy story too.
