Pelicans Steal the Show in Philly, But the Story is More Interesting Than the Score

The Pelicans rolled into Philadelphia and beat the 76ers 126-111, which sounds clean on paper. What actually happened was way messier, and honestly, it's created some real fantasy headaches for 76ers managers heading into the stretch run.

The Good News: Your Stars Showed Up (Sort Of)

Tyrese Maxey and Zion Williamson basically matched each other at the fantasy line, both pulling in just over 51 Yahoo points. Maxey got his 27 points with solid peripheral help (7 assists, 5 steals), even if he was a tick down from his season average. That's the kind of performance you're banking on from a top-tier guard, especially when things get tight in the playoffs.

Zion did Zion things. Twenty-one points on efficient shooting, six boards, eight dimes. He was literally a point below his season average, which actually tells you something important: this isn't a breakout, it's just Wednesday night. He's been reliable all year, and tonight he was reliable. That's exactly what you need in February, not flashy.

The Real Winners: The Bench Guys

Here's where this game got interesting for waiver wire hunting. Kelly Oubre Jr. absolutely went off for 37 Yahoo points, nearly 11 points better than his season average. This wasn't a case of him launching from deep (though he did hit 4 threes). He was efficient at 7-15 FG with great shot selection. The question now is whether this was a game where the Sixers needed someone to step up with their star power out, or if Oubre's actually turned a corner. Given he's already at 96.9% ownership in Yahoo leagues, you're probably not picking him up anyway. But if someone's panic-dropping him after a down week, hold him. This is who he can be.

Jordan Poole is the real story here. The man put up 37 Yahoo points on just 24 minutes, nearly 9 points better than his season average. That's +8.6 on the night, and it came on 8-15 shooting with five threes. If Poole has finally figured out how to be a secondary creator for the Pelicans instead of a volume shooter going nowhere, that changes everything about their ceiling. He was getting real minutes too, so this wasn't a garbage-time stat inflation situation.

But let's be real about the 76ers' bench situation. Andre Drummond grabbed 12 boards in 21 minutes. That's 24.9 Yahoo points on a guy who's averaging 6.9 PPG and 8.8 RPG. The rebounds jumped out, but his scoring stayed where it always is (5 points). This is what Drummond offers: glass cleaner minutes in specific matchups. Don't get cute thinking he's suddenly a consistent source. He won't be.

The Bad: Philly Got Exposed

Here's the thing nobody wants to talk about yet, but they should. The 76ers came to New Orleans without some key pieces, and it showed. Dominick Barlow got run, VJ Edgecombe got 35 minutes, and while neither played bad, you're seeing the lineup get stretched thin. Barlow's already getting dropped in leagues (down 0.0% ownership), and honestly, I get it. He's a deep bench guy in a crowded rotation. Don't chase this one.

The bigger question is what this game tells you about Philly's depth heading into crunch time. When your main rotation has to go 5-deep into role players to stay competitive on the road, that's a vulnerability. It doesn't kill anyone's fantasy value tonight, but it's worth monitoring.

The Take-Home

This wasn't a game that fundamentally changed anyone's outlook. Zion stays a reliable mid-round anchor, Maxey stays a top-20 guard option, and Oubre stays someone you hold if you've got him. Poole is interesting if he can sustain 25+ minutes going forward, but the Pelicans' bench rotation is crowded enough that one good game doesn't mean he's locked in for touches.

On the Sixers side, lean on your studs and don't get distracted by the random bench performances. That's how you get burned.
