Knicks Win Ugly, But Three Guys Made Fantasy Hay

Final: Knicks 112, Lakers 100

Look, this game was a slog. Low-scoring, defensive-minded, the kind of matchup that makes you check your phone halfway through the third quarter. But fantasy basketball doesn't care about aesthetics, and tonight there were some serious winners and some serious "what the heck happened" moments that matter for your roster.

Let's start with the damage report.

Mikal Bridges 16.0 16.0 10/0/2 15.7/4.2/4.1 -5.7

The Winners

OG Anunoby was the best player on the court tonight, and I'm not just saying that because the Knicks won. The All-NBA Third Team selection went 9-15 from the field, dropped 25 points, and absolutely cooked through the Lakers' defense. His +8.6 against season average tells you everything, especially on shooting: 60% from the field is way different from his 16.4 PPG average. This is the OG everyone drafted to be, and if you own him, keep riding this wave.

Josh Hart had one of those games where he showed why he's valuable even on a stacked Knicks team. 20 points on 8-11 shooting is not a typo. His +7.5 vs average came from pure efficiency, and in a low-scoring game, that matters. If he sustains even 40-50% of tonight's performance, he's a rock-solid depth guy.

Landry Shamet is the name to watch on the waiver wire. I know, I know, he's been buried. But 23 points on 8-13 shooting with 6 threes in 26 minutes? That's a +13.7 against his season average. This looks like a role expansion in a Knicks rotation that's tightening up. Not saying he's a league winner, but in 14-team leagues and deeper, grab him if he's available.

The Problems

Jalen Brunson had a rough night and it's worth noting because he's been All-NBA Second Team. 12 points on 4-15 shooting is uncharacteristic, even accounting for the defensive attention he gets. The assist line was solid at 13 (which is why he still hit 41.9 Yahoo FP), but when your PG is that inefficient from the field, it bleeds into wins. This wasn't a minutes thing either, 36 minutes played. Sometimes even All-NBA guys have stinkers. Don't panic, but don't ignore it either.

Karl-Anthony Towns looked off. 11 points on 5-11 shooting when he's averaging 19.8 is a -8.8 swing. For a guy who's supposed to spread the floor and give you scoring punch, 11 points doesn't get it done, especially when the rebounds (13) were propped up by a limited pool. Next game will tell you if this is noise or something to worry about.

Lakers Side

Luka Dončić did his thing, 30 points and 15 boards on 36 minutes, which is basically his baseline. 57 Yahoo FP is a solid night but not his best. He's a first-round pick for a reason, and the -3.6 vs average is honestly nothing in the context of how consistent he's been. Austin Reaves getting 0 minutes is the wild card, though. If that's an injury or a coaches' decision, it matters for future games.

LeBron James went 9-15 from the field and just barely beat his season average. At this point in his career, 22 points and 6 assists playing 34 minutes is the floor, not the ceiling. He's fine, the Lakers' offense just sputtered against a tough Knicks defense.

Deandre Ayton cracked the top 10 for the night and is getting added across the board (he hit 72.9% ownership). Here's the real talk: perfect shooting nights (6-6) don't last. The 23.5 Yahoo FP is nice, but his season average is 13.6 PPG. I'm not saying he's a sell-high candidate, but don't get fooled into thinking he's suddenly a 20-point guy. He had a good game in limited minutes. Stay realistic.

The Actual Story

This was a defensive slugfest where the Knicks' role players outperformed the Lakers' role players. Luka and LeBron were fine. Brunson had an off night. OG went nuclear. Shamet showed up out of nowhere. That's the whole game.

For your lineups, the takeaways are simple: if you own OG or Josh Hart, they're not sell-highs but they proved they can produce at a high level on this team. If you need a dart throw in deeper leagues, Shamet just made himself relevant. And if Brunson is on your team, don't panic, but watch his shot selection next game because 4-15 isn't who he is.

That's the read. Low-scoring games create weird fantasy nights. Tonight belonged to the Knicks' supporting cast. See you next one.
