Mobley's Monster Night Carries Cavs Past Kings in Defensive Clinic

Evan Mobley just reminded everyone why he won Defensive Player of the Year last season. The reigning DPOY went absolutely nuclear on both ends against Sacramento, dropping 29 points and 13 rebounds on 13-24 shooting with 4 blocks in 34 minutes. That's 67.1 Yahoo points, which translates to +11.3 points above his 17.7 season average. This wasn't a hot shooting night padding stats. This was a man playing at an elite level on a mission. The Cavaliers won 123-118, and Mobley's dominance in the paint was the difference maker.

The Winners

Evan Mobley absolutely feasted. 67.1 Yahoo points with a +11.3 advantage over his season average is the kind of night that wins fantasy matchups. He went 13-24 from the floor and didn't need the three ball or free throw line to impact the game. This is who Mobley is when he's locked in defensively and aggressive on offense. He's All-NBA caliber when he plays like this, and if he can sustain even 75% of tonight's intensity, owners should be thrilled. This wasn't a fluke either, his usage was legitimate.

Donovan Mitchell chipped in 53.0 with a solid +4.1 over his average. Don's been All-NBA First Team for a reason, and 33 points on 11-25 with five threes shows he can get buckets when the team needs them. He's reliable like that. Not a blowout night, but the kind of consistent performance that keeps fantasy rosters afloat.

Domantas Sabonis led Sacramento with 51.2 Yahoo points on a 24/16/6 line, posting +8.6 over his 15.4 average. He's a walking double-double machine and tonight he was dominant in limited minutes (30). The efficiency was clean too, 9-14 from the field with a perfect 5-5 from the line. Sabonis is still a top-tier fantasy asset despite the Kings getting run out of the gym in the second half.

The Letdowns

Russell Westbrook and Zach LaVine both got exposed here. Russ put up just 21.5 Yahoo points on 3-12 shooting, a -4.6 drop from his 15.6 average. Yeah, the numbers look okay on the surface with 11 points and 3 threes, but his efficiency was brutal and his minus-minus was atrocious. This is the Westbrook experience, folks. LaVine was somehow worse at 12.0 Yahoo points, shooting 4-8 with 10 points. That's -9.8 from his 19.8 season average. The Kings needed him tonight and he vanished.

The Trends

Minutes tell the story here. Mobley got 34 minutes and ate the entire game. Tyson got 35 minutes and looked like a starter, posting 17 points off the bench. The Cavaliers' depth is legit, and they're not afraid to ride hot hands. Sacramento's issue was clear: Sabonis played only 30 minutes despite being their best player. If the Kings want to compete, they need him on the floor longer. Dennis Schröder stepped up with 29.8 Yahoo points, but that's not sustainable if he's the second option.

The Moves

Add Jaylon Tyson immediately if he's available. 28.4 Yahoo points as a bench scorer is not a one-off. The kid is getting legitimate minutes and produced 3.5 points over his season average. He's still under 50% owned across most leagues. Grab him now before he becomes a mainstream pickup.

Do not panic sell on Russell Westbrook, but this is a cautionary tale. He's fine as a streamer in specific matchups, but nights like this remind you why he wasn't a priority asset coming into the season. He's a play-it-by-feel guy.

Sabonis remains a must-start everywhere. One game doesn't change his tier. He got 30 minutes because Sacramento got smoked, not because of performance. Keep him locked in.

Next Up

Cavaliers need to maintain this defensive intensity when they take on their next opponent. Mobley's on a mission, and Mitchell's supporting cast gives them a real shot to make noise. Sacramento has to figure out the LaVine situation fast. A healthy, engaged Zach changes that team completely. Watch for lineup adjustments from Mike Brown and whether the Kings actually try running Sabonis more minutes in future matchups.
