Shai's 39 Pts Wasn't Enough, But Heat's Depth Game Is The Real Story

Thunder took the L 120-122 to Miami last night, and yeah, I'm still salty about it. But here's the thing: this game wasn't about Shai going off for 39 (which he did, hitting 13-13 from the line like it's 2K), it was about Bam Adebayo becoming the exact player the Heat need him to be. He dropped 52.4 Yahoo points and completely took over the glass and rim. That's the headline nobody's talking about.

Tonight's Top Performers

Player Yahoo FP Tonight Season Avg vs Avg
Bam Adebayo 52.4 30/12/4 17.4/9.6/2.8 +12.6 pts, +2.4 reb
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 49.3 39/4/3 31.8/4.4/6.2 +7.2 pts, -3.2 ast
Chet Holmgren 43.2 14/11/2/5 17.8/8.5/1.6 +2.5 reb, 5 blocks
Norman Powell 37.8 19/4/4 23.8/3.8/2.7 -4.8 pts
Aaron Wiggins 26.7 18/6/1 10.3/3.3/1.7 +7.7 pts, +2.7 reb

Bam's the story here. He went absolutely bonkers, pulling down 12 boards and draining 6 threes while staying perfect from the free throw line (6-6). That's 12.6 points above his season average in one game. This isn't a fluke either. He's been trending upward for weeks, and last night proved he's figured out how to space the floor while still dominating inside. If you don't have Bam, get him. He's not owned as heavily as he should be at 97.1%, and honestly that number might be about to jump hard.

Shai did Shai things, 39 points on efficient shooting (12-19 FG) with perfect free throw shooting. But here's the catch: his assists dropped to just 3, well below his 6.2 average. The Thunder needed more playmaking when it mattered most, and SGA was basically running ISO ball all night. Still elite, still worthy of your lineup, but the assist drought is worth noting.

The Winners

Bam Adebayo crushed it. 30/12/4/1 with 6 threes and six made free throws in just 32 minutes. That's 52.4 Yahoo points, sitting 12.6 above his season norm. He's playing All-Defensive level defense and now spacing to the three line. This is the version of Bam that makes Miami dangerous. Grab him off waivers if he somehow slipped through.

Aaron Wiggins came off the bench and absolutely cooked, dropping 18/6 on 7-10 shooting with 4 threes in 27 minutes. That's 7.7 points above his average. Wiggins doesn't get the hype he deserves, but he's been solid all season and last night he showed up when it mattered. Keep him on your radar for deeper leagues.

Chet Holmgren did his thing with 14/11/5, hitting five blocks. The 11 rebounds are the story here, as that's 2.5 above his average. He's still not putting up crazy scoring numbers, but as a rim runner and elite defender, he's money in a points league. ESPN scoring loves him more (44 FP vs 43.2 Yahoo), so if you're on ESPN, he's even more valuable.

The Letdowns

Norman Powell put up 19 points, which sounds fine until you remember he's averaging 23.8. He went 5-15 from the field and while the 5 threes is solid, he left a bunch of buckets on the court. Not panic-worthy, but he wasn't the guy last night like he usually is.

Jalen Williams only played 13 minutes and scored just 8 points. That's 8.8 below his average. This is the biggest red flag from the Thunder side. If Jalen's minutes are dropping because of matchups or rotation tweaks, that's a problem for fantasy managers who depend on him. Watch his playing time closely next game.

The Trends

The Thunder are rolling out Aaron Wiggins heavy off the bench, and he's delivering. That's a plus-36 minutes kind of game, so he's getting real rotation minutes now. Meanwhile, Luguentz Dort (All-Defensive First Team, mind you) only got 21 minutes and stayed quiet with just 2 points. That's the biggest concern for Thunder fans. Dort usually anchors the defense, but last night he was barely used. Something to monitor.

Heat got contributions from literally everyone. Pelle Larsson came off the bench and added 16/3 with a +6.7 performance. That depth is scary. They're not relying on one guy to carry them, and that usually wins in the playoffs.

The Moves

Add: Pelle Larsson (Heat). He went for 24.6 Yahoo points last night and exceeded expectations by 6.7. He's still only 29 minutes deep, but the Heat are clearly trusting him more. At probably less than 10% owned, he's a sneaky pickup if you need depth scoring.

Drop: Luguentz Dort (Thunder). I hate dropping defensive studs, but 21 minutes and 2 points is rough. If the rotation keeps him sidelined, he's not helping your fantasy team. See how he looks next game before panic selling, but his workload is a concern.

Trade Target: Bam Adebayo. If someone in your league didn't catch fire last night and is feeling buyer's remorse, try offering them a decent player plus picks for Bam. He's about to be the flavor of the month, and you want him locked in now.

Next Up

Thunder play Denver next, and if Hartenstein stays out, we could see Chet take on even more of the load. Heat host the Nets, which is a matchup where their depth should run wild. Watch whether Jalen's minutes increase for OKC, and whether Bam keeps this energy going. That's the tell for whether last night was a peak performance or a new baseline.
